Portrait Retrospective: Part 2

Pressing on with the portrait nostalgia roadshow! Images featured in this post are from the same session as the previous blog post. Mixing studio with more environmental portraiture is always fun. The model was also an aspiring singer and hoped to use some of the images for promotion as well. This was a bit before social media was such a thing.

I originally processed all of these as black and white. At the time I considered myself a “black and white photographer”. Still do, mostly. But I have incorporated color into my workflow more.

Tulip Revisit – Part 1

Just a quick post today after a rather lengthy hiatus. Some color and black and white photographs of tulips to get us back into the swing of things. These particular images will be going up for available prints at both sites for prints by me; this one and this one.

For some, abstract photography presents difficulties. Possibly they struggle with the “why” of abstract images, what they are meant to signify to the viewer. Personally, to me, the abstract photograph is about taking the subject our of its context. Looking not only at what it is, but what it also is, what interest it holds when taken for its form and construction outside of its obvious context.

Sunflower Photography: New Prints!

Today I’ve added two new prints to my Sunflower gallery. These are fine art images, one in color and one in black & white. I was really taken with the shape and form of sunflowers a few months back and it resulted in a rather large body of work on the subject.

There are a few more images to be added to this catalog in the near future, likely just before Christmas 😉

Fall Maternity Session – Pretty in Purple

Recently I had the opportunity to photograph Jhoanna’s maternity session. Jhoanna knew exactly what she wanted from her session and so I was able to choose a location that met her needs.

It’s fall which means some fantastic changes in the natural colors here in the Pacific Northwest as well as cooler temperatures. Portraits at this time of year are something special. There are plenty of venues for outdoor portraits. A photographer is limited only by their own desire to seek out some of these locals. This made my task a lot easier in this particular session.

Jhoanna and her husband Chris picked the colors for their wardrobe which I think works. Jhoanna had already expressed her desire for nice, warm, fall images.

Fall normally means rain here in the Pacific Northwest and there was some concern that we might have to reschedule our planned day. Fortunately, things worked out just as we planned for our late afternoon shoot.

A great session that resulted in a happy client and a happy photographer. I’m looking forward to her new arrivals for their first portraits too. That’s right, “arrivals”, can’t wait to meet these twins!
